Departure: Piazza San Rocco
Journey time: about 6 hours
Difference in altitude: 1400 mt

This is a challenging ring hike, around the north-western part of Calizzano, trespassing into Piedmont, Province of Cuneo, reaching Mount Spinarda, 1357 m. With clear days you can admire the entire Alpine arc up to Mont Blanc, and the sea with the Ligurian and Tuscan coasts up to Corsica. The tour starts from the ascent in the pine forest and then descends to the newly rediscovered castle. Then you will admire an ancient chestnut tree. From there you will challenge a long climb that passes through the Bricco, the lower of the Sciù Bene, the Canö and two old farmhouses once inhabited (Campo Gramoso and Cocalini) and you will arrive at Colle Quazzo (CN). From there, you will go up more gently until you will reach the Cascina del Barbon and finally you will see the cross of the top of Monte Spinarda. There you will have a good and well-deserved packed lunch. We leave for a long downhill stretch that will take us from the Bassa degli Abeti to the Cian de minô and finally to the Valle hamlet in Località Riini, where one of the old churches of Calizzano (15th century) stands.

Departure: Piazza San Rocco
Journey time: about 2.30 hours

This is a simple excursion through Calizzano fields and woods that brings you to the Fonte Bauda tunnel, surrounded by a magnificent beech forest. During the journey, never too demanding, you will pass by the Mamma’s old Teccio (a Teccio is old building used to dry chestnuts), at the Teccio of Carlan and at the Torretta. Then you will descend through Giaire Sottane and come back to Piazza San Rocco.
